Sessional - BISC 102 - General Biology - 1261 - Burnaby Campus
The following Sessional appointment is expected to be available in the Department of Biological Sciences during the SPRING SEMESTER (January 2 to April 29, 2026).

RESERVE SESSIONAL INSTRUCTOR POSITION: No
Article XIV E.3.a of the TSSU-大象传媒 Collective Agreement allows for up to 25% of appointments within a given department to be reserved for graduate students or postdoctoral fellows. 鈥淲hile priority will be given to Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows in awarding this RESERVED position, all Sessional Instructors are encouraged to apply. In the event it is not filled by a Grad or Postdoc, it will be filled by another qualified applicant in accordance with Article XIV E of the Collective Agreement.鈥
Course Description: Introduction to evolution and ecology, focusing on the processes that shape the diversity of life on earth. Lecture and lab topics include: natural selection and other mechanisms of evolutionary change, phylogeny, genetics, speciation, behaviour, species interactions, population ecology, and ecosystems.
Lab responsibilities include assisting with lab development and Teaching Assistant (TA) training, introducing and supervising each lab session with the assistance of the TAs, and meeting with students on lab days. The instructor is also responsible for giving lab exams, and grading course assignments/exams with the help of the TAs.
Minimum Qualifications: A master鈥檚 degree or equivalent qualification in biology or a related discipline, with a broad training in ecology, evolution and genetics. Expertise in ecology, evolution and genetics. The successful candidate must have recent relevant laboratory and teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
Recommended Qualifications: The preferred candidate would have a minimum of 4 months鈥 teaching experience in introductory biology lecture and laboratory courses at the post-secondary level.
