Islamic History Month Opening Ceremony
Opening Islamic History Month celebrations in Vancouver with the themes of joy and solidarity.
About this event
We welcome you to celebrate Vancouver's launch of Islamic History Month online with us. Join together as we hear from Indigenous elders, City and Provincial officials and our keynote speaker Councillor Sharmake Dubow (Victoria) on this year's theme "Joy and Solidarity".
The Parliament of Canada proclaimed October Canadian Islamic History Month in 2007 in recognition of significant contributions Muslims have made to Canadian society.
Islamic History Month is a time to reflect, celebrate, learn, and appreciate the diversity within Canada鈥檚 Muslim communities. From poetry, film, and the arts to spiritual and philosophical knowledge, Muslims continue to enrich the multicultural social fabric around the world and in Canada.
We acknowledge we are on the unceded territories of the x史m蓹胃k史蓹y虛蓹m (Musqueam), S岣祑x瘫w煤7mesh (Squamish), and Sel虛铆l虛witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. We thank them for having cared for this land. We recognize that we cannot celebrate Islamic History in Canada without reflecting on whose land we're on and our duties to this land and its people.
