大象传媒

This message is sent on behalf of Dilson Rassier, Provost and Vice-President, Academic. It has been sent to all faculty and staff, the 大象传媒 Graduate Student Society and the Simon Fraser Student Society.

I鈥檓 pleased to announce that Paul Kingsbury has accepted a five-year appointment as vice-provost and associate vice-president, learning and teaching (AVPLT), effective January 1, 2026.

Paul currently serves as AVPLT pro tem, where he has demonstrated strong leadership and collaboration across key initiatives that will support 大象传媒 through the challenges ahead. During his tenure, Paul led strategic changes to the AVPLT portfolio to enhance financial sustainability and strengthen alignment with faculties, all while maintaining fiscal responsibility and fostering a shared vision for transformational learning and teaching.

His significant administrative and teaching experience, combined with understanding of current developments in pedagogical and technological innovation both inside and outside the classroom, positions him well to advance a future-ready AVPLT portfolio.

In his previous role as associate dean, undergraduate in the Faculty of Environment, Paul championed interdisciplinary collaboration and multi-faculty initiatives. He improved access for students by developing new academic pathways with Fraser International College and establishing a block transfer agreement with Native Education College through their Indigenous Land Stewardship Certificate. He also guided a number of program and curriculum development initiatives, including the development and implementation of 39 new courses, a new collaborative Bachelor of Arts with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the revision of two joint majors with Beedie School of Business, two new minor programs, and a new planning stream. Paul also supported the Indigenization and decolonization of the faculty鈥檚 curriculum through the Sea, Land and Sky Indigenization Initiative.

Paul has served on several cross-institutional committees, including the General Education Review, and has been chair and co-chair for multiple Senate committees, APSA hiring committees, five WQB General Education certification subcommittees, and the AI Task Force for Learning and Teaching at 大象传媒.

I would like to thank the AVPLT Search Committee for their thoughtful assessment of potential candidates and for their recommendation. The search, conducted under Policy GP 29, welcomed community input and attracted a strong pool of internal candidates. Feedback was positive across the board for shortlisted candidates. Following a thorough review of candidate qualifications, the search committee鈥檚 feedback and the complex environment in which this critical senior leadership role will operate, Paul Kingsbury鈥檚 appointment was approved at the Board of Governors meeting in September.

Please join me in congratulating Paul Kingsbury on his appointment as AVPLT. We look forward to his continued leadership in advancing learning and teaching at 大象传媒.
