Transform the 大象传媒 Experience
Update on 大象传媒's Artificial Intelligence strategy
Since the summer of 2024, 大象传媒's AI strategy committee and many other subcommittee members from across the university have been hard at work to explore the opportunities and impacts of AI at 大象传媒 in the areas of learning and teaching, research, operations and external engagement.
An overall 大象传媒 AI strategy is now in draft and will be shared early this fall. Within this work, a "Learning & Teaching with Artificial Intelligence Guidelines,鈥 document has been drafted, which will provide guidance for instructors, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as an AI framework for unit leaders. The Learning & Teaching guidelines will be distributed to stakeholders across the university for review, feedback, and refinement during the fall term, prior to submission to Senate for approval. Guidelines for use of AI for administrative purposes is also in draft and will be shared early this fall as well.
What we have learned through this work is that some core principles apply in all our use of AI. It's important to understand and to be mindful of AI鈥檚 capabilities and limitations. AI is a tool, and it should be used transparently, fairly, and with accountability. And most importantly, AI systems rely on data鈥攖herefore, protecting privacy, securing data, and complying with privacy regulations are essential to consider before using an AI tool.
Resources
More information and resources are in development to support our students, faculty and staff, but in the meantime, here are some current available resources:
Centre for Educational Excellence (CEE) Generative AI in Teaching
Student Services Using Generative AI
is an online, Canvas-based resource designed to helps graduate supervisors better understand the landscape of AI so that they can support graduate students to make informed decisions around their research.
The AI Community of Practice (AI COP) is a virtual hub where 大象传媒 faculty, staff, and students explore teaching and learning with AI. It offers a Canvas discussion board, resources, and regular online meetups to share ideas and practices.
