MA, MEd dans Curriculum & Instruction: l'茅ducation en fran莽ais en contextes de diversit茅 (campus de 大象传媒)
Le programme de ma卯trise en 茅ducation, offert en fran莽ais, est ax茅 sur la th茅matique de la diversit茅 et de l鈥檌nclusion dans les contextes d鈥櫭ヾucation en situations minoritaires. Il propose d鈥檈xaminer la recherche acad茅mique et professionnelle dans le domaine afin de favoriser la compr茅hension des situations de diversit茅s, de d茅velopper les comp茅tences interculturelles des 茅tudiants et 茅tudiantes et de sugg茅rer des pistes d鈥檌ntervention adapt茅es a虁 ces nouvelles re虂alite虂s. Deux choix sont possibles : l'option 脿 orientation professionnelle (M.脡d.) ou l'option 脿 orientation recherche (M.A.).

Plusieurs bourses sont disponibles pour les 茅tudes en fran莽ais 脿 大象传媒 dont la bourse du minist猫re de l鈥櫭塪ucation de la C.-B. (1500$ / ann茅e jusqu鈥櫭 concurrence de 2 ans) pour les enseignants certifi茅s en Colombie-Britannique.

Structure
Ce programme est compos茅 de six cours de cinq cr茅dits chacun (30 cr茅dits en tout). Trois de ces cours sont des cours de base communs 脿 tous les programmes du m锚me type, trois autres compl猫tent le programme et lui donnent son identit茅 particuli猫re.

Description du programme
Il s鈥檃git d鈥檜n programme de type cohorte ax茅 sur la construction d鈥檜ne communaut茅 d鈥檃pprentissage qui favorise les 茅changes entre les 茅tudiant路e路s et les professeur路e路s ainsi que la construction d'une identit茅 de chercheur路e-enseignant路e.
Deux options sont offertes aux 茅tudiant路e路s: l'option 脿 orientation professionnelle (M.脡d.) avec la r茅daction d'un examen de synth猫se 脿 la fin du programme et l'option 脿 orientation recherche (M.A.) avec l'茅criture d'une th猫se, pour les personnes int茅ress茅es 脿 la recherche et potentiellement 脿 la poursuite d'茅tudes doctorales.
Les 茅tudiants et 茅tudiantes vont :
- Analyser de mani猫re critique la recherche th茅orique et professionnelle sur le bilinguisme, le plurilinguisme, la litt茅ratie, l鈥櫭ヾucation interculturelle et les interactions en salle de classe ;
- Comprendre la recherche et ses applications dans divers domaines li茅s 脿 l鈥櫭ヾucation en situation de diversit茅s linguistiques et culturelles incluant les perspectives autochtones ;
- S鈥檃ppuyer sur la th茅orie pour d茅velopper des strat茅gies d鈥檈nseignement inclusives pouvant 锚tre appliqu茅es dans divers contextes 茅ducatifs en langue fran莽aise ;
- R茅fl茅chir de mani猫re critique sur ses propres pratiques en classe et ses identit茅s professionnelles ;
- Construire une communaut茅 d鈥檃pprentissage en collaborant et participant activement 脿 la classe.

EDUC 834-5 PLURILINGUISME ET APPRENTISSAGES SCOLAIRES
Le cours abordera les questions d鈥檃ppropriation et de transmission des langues en s鈥檌nterrogeant en particulier sur les passages et les ruptures entre le milieu social (les familles et les groupes de pairs) et celui de l鈥櫭ヽole. Les lectures et discussions porteront aussi sur les pratiques de transmission des langues et les repr茅sentations du bi-/plurilinguisme. Seront examin茅s 茅galement des outils et pratiques d鈥檈nseignement pour la gestion et le d茅veloppement des plurilinguismes.
EDUC 858-5 PERSPECTIVES ET PRATIQUES INTERCULTURELLES EN CONTEXTES FRANCOPHONES
Dans ce cours, les 茅tudiants seront introduits aux fondements de l鈥櫭ヾucation interculturelle et engag茅s dans une analyse critique des pratiques scolaires 鈥 incluant leurs propres pr茅suppos茅es et pratiques d鈥檈nseignement 鈥 脿 l鈥櫭ゞard de la diversit茅 culturelle et du traitement de l鈥檌dentit茅 dans les 茅coles pluriethniques en contextes francophones. Les 茅tudiants seront amen茅s 脿 d茅velopper des approches inclusives pour la salle de classe, se familiariser avec les politiques 茅ducatives sur la diversit茅 ainsi qu'avec les recherches actuelles et les pratiques dans le champ de l鈥櫭ヾucation interculturelle au Canada et dans d鈥檃utres pays francophones.
EDUC 823-5 LITT脡RATIE ET DIVERSIT脡 LINGUISTIQUE
Le cours propose l鈥檈xamen des fondements th茅oriques de l鈥櫭﹖ude de la litt茅ratie et de la diversit茅 linguistique afin de situer les tendances actuelles de la pratique 茅ducative en milieu plurilingue. Les 茅tudiants examineront l鈥櫭﹙olution des courants de recherche sur la lecture et l鈥櫭ヽriture en langue seconde ainsi que la conception actuelle du terme litt茅ratie, en s鈥檃ttardant sur les th茅ories sociolinguistiques et les 茅tudes ethnographiques de la communication. Les 茅tudiants entre-prendront aussi une 茅tude critique des recherches r茅centes sur la bi-litt茅ratie.
EDUC 819-5 脡TUDE DES INTERACTIONS EN SALLE DE CLASSE
脡tude des interactions en salle de classe et application 脿 l鈥檃nalyse des interactions de l鈥櫭﹖udiant dans sa propre classe. Le cours traitera aussi de mod猫les p茅dagogiques et de leur application 脿 diff茅rentes cat茅gories d鈥檕bjectifs 茅ducatifs.
EDUC 864-5 M脡THODOLOGIE DE LA RECHERCHE EN 脡DUCATION
Les 茅tudiants seront amen茅s 脿 planifier et interpr茅ter la recherche en 茅ducation. Le cours portera sur les fondements 茅pist茅mologiques de la recherche et introduira diff茅rents plans de recherche qualitative et quantitative ainsi que les proc茅dures de cueillette de donn茅es privil茅gi茅es dans le domaine.
En plus des cinq premiers cours, les 茅tudiants 脿 la M.脡d. doivent compl茅ter ces deux autres cours pendant la m锚me session:

EDUC 883-5 EXAMEN DE SYNTH脠SE (MED)
L鈥檈xamen de synth猫se porte sur la dynamique de l鈥檃pprentissage et du d茅veloppement acad茅mique et professionnel des praticiens chercheurs. Cet examen permet de mettre en valeur les connaissances et comp茅tences acquises au cours du programme.

Offered in French, this program focuses on the theme of diversity and inclusion. Students will explore, understand and apply current theories and research related to second language teaching and learning in Francophone minority settings. Students will also discover how to adapt their practice to diverse, multicultural and multilingual environments. Two choices are available: the professionally oriented option (MEd) or the research oriented option (MA).

Several bursaries are available for studies in French at 大象传媒 including the BC Ministry of Education bursary ($1500/year for up to 2 years) for certified teachers in British Columbia.

Program Design
This two-year cohort-based program is woven around a learning community that foster interactions between students and professors and the construction of a researcher-teacher identity.
Two options are offered to students: the professionally oriented option (M.Ed.) with the writing of a comprehensive examination at the end of the program, and the research oriented option (M.A.) with the writing of a thesis, for those interested in research and potentially in pursuing doctoral studies.
Students will:
- Critically examine current theories and research on bilingualism, plurilingualism, literacy, intercultural education and classroom interactions
- Develop an understanding of research on cultural and linguistic diversity, including indigenous perspectives
- Accurately relate theoretical discussions to practice within the context of French teaching and identify implications for practice
- Critically reflect on their own classroom practices and professional identities
- Engage in the university classroom in a collaborative and participatory manner

EDUC 834-5 Multilingualism, Language Acquisition, and Language Learning in the School Context
A critical examination of key aspects of bi- and multilingualism from the double perspectives of sociolinguistics and language education. Current issues and theoretical developments in the study of multilingualism, identity, and language teaching provide a solid foundation to understand second and third language acquisition and literacy development in bilingual settings, including new perspectives on plurilingualism in language planning in education. The language of instruction will be French.
EDUC 858-5 Intercultural Perspectives and Practices in Francophone School Contexts
In this course, students will be introduced to the foundations of intercultural education, and engaged in critically analyzing school practices - including their own underlying assumptions and teaching practices - relating to cultural diversity and identity in multicultural Francophone school contexts. Students will derive classroom applications and become familiar with policies, contemporary research, and practices in the field of intercultural education in Canada and other Francophone countries.
EDUC 823-5 LITERACY AND LINGUISTIC DIVERSITY
The course offers an examination of the theoretical foundations of the study of literacy and linguistic diversity in order to situate the current trends in educational practice in a multilingual environment. Students will examine the evolution of research currents on reading and writing in a second language as well as the current conception of the term literacy, focusing on sociolinguistic theories and ethnographic studies of communication. Students will also undertake a critical study of recent research on bi-literacy.
EDUC 819-5 Studies in Teacher-Student Interaction
Consideration of systems for analysing teacher interaction and their use in analysing the student's own classroom teaching. The course will also deal with models of instruction designed to achieve various categories of educational objectives.
EDUC 864-5 Research Designs in Education
Designing and interpreting research about education. Introduction to survey techniques, correlational designs, classic experimental and evaluation designs for investigating causal relations, case study methods, interpretive approaches to research. Students with credit for EDUC 814 may not take this course for further credit. Equivalent Courses: EDUC814.
In addition to the first five courses, MEd students also complete these two courses during the same term:
EDUC 883-5 MEd Comprehensive Examination
The comprehensive exam focuses on the dynamics of the learning and academic and professional development of research practitioners. This exam highlights the knowledge and skills acquired during the program. The examination is graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis.
EDUC 904-5 Fieldwork
Applied research work on a subject chosen by the student.
In addition to the first five courses, MA students also complete:
EDUC 898-18 Master's Thesis
The thesis is a research investigation designed to generate and/or examine critically new knowledge in the theory and/or practice of education. The thesis should normally be completed and approved in three terms. Graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis.
