Faculty of Applied Sciences
Graduate students compete in 2023 Three Minute Thesis
This week, the annual Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) heat Three Minute Thesis (3MT) 2023 was held virtually with a total of thirteen graduate student presenters from all four schools: computing science, engineering science, mechatronics systems engineering and sustainable energy engineering.
The initial plan was to hold the competition in-person. Due to snow, presenters, judges and organizers quickly adapted as the event transitioned to a virtual one.
Sustainable energy engineering MASc student Hengameh Delbari won first place for her engaging slide and enthusiasm that captured the audience鈥檚 attention. Her presentation was titled, 鈥淚njection and Ignition Characteristics of Gaseous Fuel Jets for Low Emission Engines.鈥
Sustainable energy engineering MASc student Yameena Naqvi was announced as runner up in the competition. Judges noted her ability to communicate her research with logical flow and in a concise way. Her presentation was titled, 鈥淚onic Liquid Systems for Hydrogen Compression in Refueling Stations.鈥
Both Delbari and Naqvi will advance to the 大象传媒 final on April 5, 2023 where they will compete with students across the university for the chance to win $1000 and represent 大象传媒 at the Western Regional Competition at the University of Saskatchewan.
Computing science student Parsa Rajabi was announced as the People鈥檚 Choice Award winner based on audience voting. His presentation titled, 鈥淚mpact of an Intro Computer Science Course on Computational Thinking鈥 led to much discussion amongst the audience.
