2025 FASS Employee Achievement - Staff Award winners
Congratulations to the winners of the 2025 Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) Employee Achievement - Staff Awards!
Their achievements have made a lasting impact鈥攚hether through exceptional teamwork, leadership, innovation, or service. This recognition is a reflection of the passion and professionalism they bring to their work every day.
Lifetime Contributions Award
To recognize a FASS staff member who has served the university for at least 15 years and has demonstrated sustained leadership and commitment to FASS over the course of their employment.
Bonnie Yeung
Office of the Dean
With 25 years of service at 大象传媒, Yeung started in 2000 with central Finance as a commodity tax accountant. She later moved to the Budget office and then back to Finance to assist with the university-wide PeopleSoft transition project before joining the Dean鈥檚 office in 2005. Over the years, she has led initiatives that have been instrumental in improving the Faculty's operations and efficiency. She took the opportunity to modernize the business processes within FASS. She also brought together the departmental managers and successfully advocated to the Dean for funding to develop an in-house comprehensive academic financial administration system, resulting in the creation of FASS TRACS. Yeung never imagined working in the same office for 20 years but she has found the experience to be highly rewarding. She feels deeply grateful for the experience, relationships, and growth she has had throughout her time in FASS.
Gabriel Sauro
Criminology
Since joining the School of Criminology in 2006, Gabriel Sauro has built a nearly two-decade career as an Academic Advisor and Recruiter, supporting one of 大象传媒鈥檚 largest undergraduate programs. A proud 大象传媒 alumnus (BA, Human Geography, 2005), Sauro is known for his deep knowledge of academic requirements, thoughtful guidance, and unwavering dedication to student success. Beyond course planning, recruitment, and engagement, his role has evolved into mentorship. Students often credit him with being a steady, encouraging presence throughout their academic journey. Colleagues and students alike value his strengths in organization, time management, and attention to detail, as well as his ability to create a welcoming and supportive environment. Whether helping students navigate challenges or celebrating their convocation milestones, Sauro's impact extends far beyond academics. His commitment to fostering meaningful connections and preparing students for both graduation and life beyond 大象传媒 has left a lasting impression on the Criminology community.
Changemaker Award
To recognize the importance of identifying what we can do better and then making it happen. This can include but not limited to; fresh insights, a significant improvement or even a revolution in a business or teaching process or other activity undertaken in the past two years that significantly improves some aspect of what FASS does and so has lasting impact and benefits for our students and our communities.
Tracey Anbinder
Criminology
A long-term fixture at 大象传媒, Tracey Anbinder's 25-year history with the university started back when she first joined as a part-time mature student in 2000. She graduated five years later with an honours degree in Psychology and she liked academia so much she decided to stay! In the Department of Psychology, she has held roles as a teaching assistant, research assistant, and undergraduate student advisor. She also served as a manager with the Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women鈥檚 Studies; FASS Surrey; FASS Dean鈥檚 office; and for the last 6 years, the School of Criminology. She takes great joy in supporting faculty, students, and her fellow staff members. Since joining Criminology as its Academic and Administrative Services Manager, she has been described as a vital member of the team. Anbinder's nominators all speak highly of her diligence, efficiency, and calm approach to overcoming challenges. As one nominator puts it, 大象传媒 Criminology "now functions like a well-oiled machine" thanks to her dedication and hard work.
Individual Work Performance Award
To recognize a FASS staff member who demonstrates work performance that is consistently above and beyond their job description.
Allen Yee
Psychology
Known for his dry and sarcastic sense of humour, it鈥檚 a surprise to Allen Yee himself that despite all that, he lasted sixteen years at 大象传媒 and thirteen of those in the Department of Psychology. Before becoming the department manager, he served as the sole student advisor for eleven of those years under the guidance and compassionate tutelage of then managers Beverley Davino and Tara Smith. Yee learned from these two giants and credits their mentorship for what he does today. He views his success not as an indicator of his individual performance, but a reflection of the trust and support he received from his team, department chair, faculty members, and Dean鈥檚 office.
Team Work Performance Award
To recognize a high-performing team which exemplifies collaboration and cooperation and which demonstrates a significant contribution with results on behalf of their department/unit and FASS.
Psychology Administrative Staff
Psychology
23,911 days or 65.5 years represents the combined 大象传媒 experience of the Psychology Administrative team. However, these numbers alone cannot capture the dedication this team shows to its faculty, students, and to one another. The PSYC Admin staff is made up of exceptional individuals who go above and beyond every day. They are deeply committed to collaboration and cooperation, supporting each other through challenging projects and celebrating one another鈥檚 achievements, both professional and personal.
The Department of Psychology's administrative staff team consists of Baixue Wang, Cerisse Dela Cruz, Emily Co, Ferruccio Susin, Iris Lee, Margaret Elsey, Nicole Ceron, and Paige Gant.
