Post-secondary doesn't have to be a straight path.
Not everyone arrives at 大象传媒 directly from high school.
Before coming to 大象传媒, Jonathan started at Langara College, where he obtained his associate鈥檚 degree in geography. He was interested in learning about cities 鈥� including transportation, planning and migration 鈥� and the variety of urban geography courses and the preferential admission for associate degree applicants made continuing at 大象传媒 a logical choice.
鈥淭he transition to 大象传媒 was not that easy. I took two intersession courses during my first semester鈥� [but] with the help of classmates and wonderful professors, I had decent marks in both of my courses.鈥�
During his undergradraduate degree, Jonathan completed three co-op work terms, working in youth research, the Agency for Cooperative Housing and the Downtown Surrey BIA. He was also actively involved in volunteer work, dedicating his time to being the co-chair of the Geography Student Union, a member of the Faculty of Environment鈥檚 Student Leadership Team and an EnvironMentor, mentoring new incoming students.
His advice for anyone considering transferring is to always double check the BC transfer guide for course transferability. 鈥淭here were a few courses that I took at Langara that were not transferable to 大象传媒.鈥�
He graduated in 2023 with a bachelor of arts degree and a certificate in Geographic Information Sciences. He is now working as a district operations technician with the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in Williams Lake, B.C..
