Biography

Dr. Robert Hogg is a Distinguished Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at 大象传媒 and a Senior Research Scientist at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. Trained in anthropology, demography, and cohort research, he is a leading Canadian HIV researcher whose work focuses on the social and structural factors affecting the health of people living with HIV, particularly in underserved communities. His current research examines the impact of the overdose crisis in British Columbia, with a focus on how sex and gender influence healthcare use and outcomes after non-fatal overdoses among people with and without HIV. Dr. Hogg is a Member of the Order of Canada and a Fellow of both the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and the Royal Society of Canada.

Research interests

  • Access to HIV treatment and care, particularly among underserved groups
  • Impact long-term antiretroviral therapy on the aging processes and development of comorbid conditions among people living with HIV
  • Influence of the structural and social determinants on health disparities, access to care, and HIV-related outcomes, with an emphasis on socioeconomic status, gender, ethnicity, and systemic inequities.
