October 17, 2025

Congratulations to MA political science student, Tatiana Parrish, on receiving the prestigious Graduate Studies Award for Excellence in Service! The Graduate Studies Award for Excellence is presented annually to a ´óÏó´«Ã½ staff member or a graduate student who has showcased outstanding contribution towards graduate students’ journeys at ´óÏó´«Ã½.

Parrish's outstanding actions include active involvement in the Political Science Graduate Caucus, where she organized socials and speaker events, represented graduate students at faculty meetings, mentored graduate peers, and provided thoughtful feedback that has strengthened the department community, among many other contributions.

As a political science graduate student, Parrish has a number of achievements to her credit. Her major focus has been around developing quantitative and qualitative research on how the international law CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) has an impact on violence against women. She has obtained Knowledge Mobilization Certificates from ´óÏó´«Ã½ and the University of York and presented her research findings on the topic ‘CEDAW and Feminism Pressure Canada to End Femicide’ at the 2025 Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, where she won the ‘People’s Choice Award’.

Beyond academics, Parrish has held various board positions in local organizations, including the Vice President of the Canadian International Council – Vancouver Chapter and, currently, the Vice President of the British Columbia Mainland Chapter of Democrats Abroad – where she received the 2024 Legacy Award in recognition of her community leadership and engagement in promoting democracy.

Currently, as a Research Assistant for the Dean of FASS, she has supported several projects including the development of the FASS Strategic Research Plan for 2024 – 2029, school wide events, and most recently the Dean of FASS, Dr. Laurel Weldon’s UN Women funded project to update the Feminist Mobilization Index.
