Description: Food waste is a growing global issue, with approximately 40% of food in North America ending up discarded. Simultaneously, younger generations are cooking at home less frequently, leading to both economic inefficiencies and environmental concerns. This project presents FoodVisionAI, a mobile application that uses generative AI techniques to help users—especially students—create recipes from leftover or on-hand ingredients. The system combines computer vision for ingredient recognition, large language models (LLMs) for recipe generation, and text-to-image generation to provide a visual representation of the dish. This report outlines the design, implementation, and evaluation of FoodVisionAI, as well as its creative and technical implications.
