Business | Beedie School of Business 大象传媒 Calendar | Fall 2025
Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and Business Administration Joint Major
The Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and the Beedie School of Business co-operate to offer this bachelor of science (BSc) joint major program. This program offers in-depth combined training that is pertinent to development and administration in emergent biotechnology enterprises. Molecular biology and biochemistry form the scientific and technological underpinnings of today’s burgeoning biotechnology field while business teaches fundamentals of economics, management, marketing, investment and business law.
大象传媒 Requirements
Students must meet the criteria specified by the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (see MBB 大象传媒 Requirements found on this page /students/calendar/programs/molecular-biology-and-biochemistry/major/bachelor-of-science.html) and the Beedie School of Business (see 大象传媒 Requirements).
Beedie School of Business 大象传媒 Requirements
Joint major applicants should apply to Beedie through the Internal Transfer process, which is outlined on the Beedie School of Business website, after completing 24 units, of which at least 12 units must have been completed at 大象传媒, and the required courses for joint major program admission with a minimum C- letter grade. Students must already be accepted to the molecular biology and biochemistry portion of the joint major or be eligible for admission that term.
大象传媒 to the Beedie School of Business is competitive. Applicants must meet minimum GPA requirements to be considered; attainment of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission. Applicants are encouraged to review admission policies and requirements specified on the Beedie School of Business admission website.
Supplemental Application
The Beedie School of Business requires all applicants to submit a supplemental application as part of their admission evaluation. The supplemental application will be used to assess factors beyond academics such as engagement, achievement, and additional qualities. For further information on the supplemental application, please visit: /beedie/programs/undergraduate/bba-major/admission-requirements/supplemental-application/transfer.html.
The supplemental application may include:
- An explanation of extra-curricular experience (i.e. in the areas of: athletics, arts, community leadership/involvement, work experience, and/or entrepreneurship)
- Short answer questions
- Online video interview
- References with at least one being academic in nature
- Any additional information in support of the application
Application Procedures
Internal transfer applicants (current 大象传媒 students) should apply for admission to the faculty upon completion of the admission requirements.
Students not accepted upon initial application may reapply. Unsuccessful applicants are permitted to appeal.
Students applying for a second degree in business must consult with a Beedie Academic Advisor. Students who have a business degree (e.g. BBA, BCom, business major/joint major, MBA, etc.) or have significant curriculum overlap will not be eligible for admission to the BBA program.
Application Deadlines
Visit /beedie/programs/undergraduate/bba-major/admission-requirements/internal-transfer.html for application deadlines.
Program Requirements
Students complete a minimum of 120 units, as specified below.
Grade Requirements
In addition to normal university grade point average requirements, the Beedie School of Business requires a minimum 2.30 overall 大象传媒 Business grade point average for entry into all 300 and 400 division business courses.
A minimum 2.30 overall 大象传媒 Business course grade point average is required for graduation from a business major, joint major, or double degree program.
For a course to be accepted as fulfilling a prerequisite, or for a lower division requirement, or for a core course to be accepted in a student’s program in business, a student must have obtained a minimum grade of C- (C minus).
Lower Division Requirements
Lower Division Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Requirements
Students complete all of
Introduction to the molecular, cellular and physiological mechanisms of living organisms (microorganisms, plants, animals). Lecture and lab topics include cell structure and function, flow of genetic information, enzyme function, metabolism, whole organism form and function (circulation, gas exchange, nutrition, osmoregulation). BISC 101 and 102 can be taken in either order. Prerequisite: Biology 12 (or equivalent) with a minimum grade of C (or BISC 100 with a minimum grade of C-, or BISC 113 with a minimum grade of C+, or BPK 105 with a minimum grade of C+, or HSCI 100 with a minimum grade of C+); and Chemistry 12 (or equivalent) with a minimum grade of C (or CHEM 111 with a minimum grade of C-). Breadth-Science.

Helps students develop professional writing- and speaking-based communication strategies they can confidently adapt to a wide range of business situations. The course aims to raise their communication performance to a professionally acceptable level, rather than to memorize or theorize about communication knowledge: this is a 鈥渓earn-by-doing鈥 course. Students will improve their ability to conceptualize, analyze/evaluate, synthesize, and apply information to guide their thinking and finished products across various business contexts. As teamwork is a fundamental skill valued by employers, students will participate in a major team project to learn about and apply best practices for collaboration with respect to professional business communication. The primary means of instruction and learning is guided practice in both writing and presenting in response to realistic business contexts. Instruction and assessment focus on both the process of creating professional, finished products, as well as the quality of those products. Prerequisite: This course is open to students admitted to the business administration major, honours, or second degree program and who have 45 units and BUS 130 or (BUS 201 or BUS 202) or BUS 301, and BUS 217W, both with a minimum grade of C-, OR to students admitted Fall 2022 onwards to the business administration major, honours, or second degree program, and who have 45 units; BUS 217W and (BUS 201 or BUS 202), both with a minimum grade of C-; and Corequisite: BUS 300, OR to business administration joint major or joint honours students with BUS 217W with a minimum grade of C- and 45 units, OR to business and economics joint major students with ECON 220W with a minimum grade of C- and 45 units, OR to mechatronic systems engineering and business administration double degree students with 45 units, OR to data science major with BUS 217W with a minimum grade of C- and 45 units.
