Did you know that the majority of students who choose a program in French at 大象传媒 have English or another language as their mother tongue?

We understand that it may seem daunting to study at university in a second or even third language; this is why OFFA and the Department of French have put in place several language support services to ensure your success.

Undergraduate Programs

French Language Support Service

The Department of French offers support services for students enrolled in French courses. Learn more.

The tutoring center is a free, drop-in service. During the fall and spring terms, a teacher is available to answer your questions about the French language: grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, style, and oral expression, for all levels.
Note: Homework is not corrected. Please come with specific questions or particular points you'd like clarified. Learn more.

Antidote is a writing assistance software that analyzes texts in French and offers various tools, including a grammar and spelling checker, dictionaries, and language guides. The Department of French provides access to  for students enrolled in FREN courses, except for beginner-level and oral expression-focused courses. Registration takes place at the start of each term.

Teacher Education Programs - French Module

Students enrolled in the Professional Development Program (PDP) or Professional Linking Program (PLP) - French Module at 大象传媒's Faculty of Education have access, throughout their studies, to a person dedicated to supporting them on the linguistic level and in the writing of assignments and the preparation of oral presentations in French. Graduate and Professional Programs in Education

Students enrolled in a graduate program in French at 大象传媒's Faculty of Education have access, throughout their studies, to someone dedicated to supporting academic writing in French. It is not a document editing service, but rather an interactive effort that enables progress over time. For more details, contact: educ_offa@sfu.ca.

Enhance Language Learning in and out of the Classroom with Mauril

Mauril is an innovative and free digital language learning platform available to anyone living in Canada who wishes to improve their French or English oral comprehension skills and boost their communication confidence! Developed by CBC/Radio-Canada and endorsed by the Government of Canada, the app leverages an extensive collection of stimulating and engaging content curated by pedagogical experts. Learners will watch and listen to clips, answer questions, try real-world language challenges, and progress through each level at their own pace. What鈥檚 more, they will be exposed to words, expressions and accents heard across the country, highlighting Canada鈥檚 diverse cultural landscape and promoting a deeper connection to local communities.
