Previous Peer Mentor
Morris Lee
I became a peer mentor because I appreciated connecting with my peer mentor Crystal in my first year. I feel like the role of a peer mentor can be helpful for those who are nervous starting in a new environment, and I wish to be someone approachable for incoming students to reach out to!
What is your best first year memory?
I think a great first year memory that comes to mind was attending Welcome Day, where I was able to meet a lot of new people, people who I'm still connected with today. I did many things to get myself out of my comfort zone in my first year, like learning about 大象传媒 clubs at Clubs Day, attending events held by the Education Student Association, and so much more.
Words of advice to new students?
Please take care of yourself, and understand that time management will be key! Some things I wish I knew more about in my first year would be the Student Learning Commons as a place to approach for help with class assignments. As well, I think it is important for students to know about the Health and Counselling Services available on campuses. It's important to know yourself, know what you need, and know that there are people and resources you can approach for help. And please don't be afraid to ask questions, because you're entering a new environment and there may be a lot of things thrown at you all at once.
What are you involved in on and off campus?
I am involved with the Education Student Association at 大象传媒, a community that is for the Faculty of Education students. We plan out monthly events for Education students to connect with others and to imbue a sense of community. As well, I am an executive within the 大象传媒 eSports Association, 大象传媒's gaming community that hosts gaming social events.
