大象传媒-EXETER ACCELERATED LAW

Graduate with two degrees鈥攁 BA from 大象传媒 and a LLB from the University of Exeter.

The first program of its kind in BC, this dual degree program is an exciting new legal education opportunity that combines the best of 大象传媒 and the University of Exeter in the UK. Fast-track your education while immersing yourself in a program that blends academic excellence, practical skills, and global exposure. 

Program Structure

One of the most exciting aspects of this program is the opportunity to study in both Canada and the UK. The program is designed to ensure a smooth and supportive transition between the two universities, so you will feel confident and prepared at each stage of your education. Whether at 大象传媒 or Exeter, you will have access to a comprehensive support network, ensuring that your academic and professional development stays on track.

Begin your studies at 大象传媒 where you will build a strong foundation, transition to the UK for three years to refine your expertise in international and comparative law, and complete your final year back at 大象传媒 to become certified.

Timeline

Year One

SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY
  • Enrol in 36 units over three terms, including the summer term.
  • You will enrol in courses required by your degree program, but also have room to explore your interests.

Year Two

SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY
  • Take 24 units over two terms.
  • Automatic admission to the University of Exeter Law School if by the end of your first five terms at 大象传媒, you:
    • Completed 60 units by the end of the spring term
    • Are in good academic standing (CGPA 3.0 or higher)
  • In the summer before you leave, with support from Exeter representatives, you will secure your visa, arrange campus housing, and make other final preparations for your experience abroad.

Year Three to Five

UNIVERSITY OF EXETER
  • Complete your LLB degree at Exeter's Streatham campus.
  • Take part in extra-curricular activities, such as mooting, pro bono work, study tours, and work placements. Exeter's employability events provide opportunities for students to meet with their Canadian alumni and to learn about different career paths.
  • Canada鈥檚 National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) requires that students earning an LLB and wishing to practice law in Canada must meet the following requirements:
    • All 360 units taken at Exeter must be law courses
    • Complete the LLB program with a degree classification of 2.2 or above

Year Six

SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY
  • Return to 大象传媒 to finish your BA by completing 30 units of course work, including the Certificate in Foundations of Canadian Law
  • Receive 30 units of transfer credit from your course work at Exeter.
  • Pass the NCA exams to receive accreditation. 

BA degree from 大象传媒

When you apply for to join the 大象传媒-Exeter Accelerated Law program, you may select your major for your Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from one of the following 16 participating programs: 
 

You will complete a modified set of WQB requirements, with six units waived, depending on your declared major. In addition, course work completed at Exeter and counted as transfer credit toward the 大象传媒 BA will be considered to meet some of your breadth requirements. You will be advised on which courses you will need to take to fulfill your WQB requirements. 

LLB degree from Exeter

The legal systems of England and Wales and Canada are both based on the common law. The LLB program combines academic rigour with the practical aspects of legal study, providing you with the foundation to pursue a professional legal career.

The LLB designation is common in Commonwealth countries such as the UK and is officially recognized in Canada upon successful completion of the National Committee for Accreditation (NCA) exams鈥攁llowing students to practice law in Canada.
