Geography Breadth Exemptions

All students admitted to an 大象传媒 undergraduate degree program after September 2006 are required to complete 36 units of -designated course work as part of their degree*. A detailed explanation of these requirements can be found on the WQB website (please note the Geography breadth exemptions mentioned below). As noted on the WQB page, at least one upper division GEOG W (writing) course must be completed as part of your program.

*A grade of C- or better is required in all WQB designated courses that will be used to fulfill degree requirements

Breadth Exemptions for Geography Students

While in most degree programs, breadth courses must be taken outside of your major (e.g. English majors must take non-ENGL courses to fulfill their breadth requirements), exemptions are in place that allow students in Geography programs to use specific Geography courses towards their breadth requirements. These exemptions are different for each Geography program. An explanation of the exemptions in place for each program is outlined below:

BA Human Geography & BA Urban Worlds Majors:

If you are pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with a Major in Geography, Human Geography or Urban Worlds, you may use any Geography course labelled B-Sci to fulfill a B-Sci requirement.

All other breadth requirements must be met with courses taken in subject areas outside Geography.

BSc Physical Geography Majors:

If you are pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Physical Geography or Geographic Information Science, you may use any Geography course labelled B-Soc to fulfill a B-Soc requirement and any Geography course labelled B-Hum to fulfill a B-Hum requirement.

All other breadth requirements must be met with courses taken in subject areas outside Geography.

BEnv Global Environmental Systems Majors:

If you are a student in the multidisciplinary Bachelor of Environment (BEnv) Global Environmental Systems (GES) program, any breadth-designated Geography course you take may be used to fulfill the corresponding breadth requirement (e.g. B-Sci, B-Soc or B-Hum).

Note - dual designated breadth courses (e.g. GEOG 100 B-Hum/B-Soc, ARCH 131 B-Soc/B-Sci, etc.) can only be used to fulfill one breadth requirement. You can choose which designation you would like it to fulfill.
