2022 Psychology Undergraduate Award winners

Cassia McIntyre
- Psychology Alumni Honours Award
- Mary Batchelor Memorial Award
Cassia recently completed her B.A. (Honours First Class with Distinction) in Psychology, minor in Counselling and Human Development, and Certificate in Criminology. She is currently the Lab Manager of the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Lab and a Senior Research Assistant in the Adolescent Health Lab. Throughout her studies, Cassia also volunteered as a Writing and Learning Peer Educator with the 大象传媒 Student Learning Commons, and as a Youth Educator with Vancouver Coastal Health鈥檚 sexual health education program, BLUSH. Under the supervision of Dr. Marlene Moretti, her Honours thesis examined maltreatment as a risk factor for dating violence and risky sexual behaviour among high-risk teens, and the moderating role of parent-child attachment.
Michelle Korlacka

Michelle recently completed her Bachelor of Arts, Honours Psychology Degree (First Class with Distinction) and a minor in Counselling and Human Development. During her time at 大象传媒, she worked at numerous research labs as a research assistant and as a Lab Coordinator at the Close Relationships Lab. During her degree, Michelle also worked as a Youth Support Worker with at-risk pregnant youth and as an Infant Development Program Assistant with pregnant and mothering women with active or historic substance use. As an honours student under the supervision of Dr. Rebecca Cobb, Michelle investigated whether romantic partner support that matches individuals' attachment insecurities buffers the negative effects of insecurities on newlywed emotional expression and discussion quality. Michelle is starting the MA and Ph.D. Clinical Psychology program at the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Dr. Allison Kelly in the fall of 2022.
Angie Fan
- Crocker Family Scholarship in Psychology
Angie recently completed her BA (Honours with Distinction) in Psychology, completing her honours thesis under the supervision of Dr. Lara Aknin. Since joining 大象传媒 in 2017 as a Gordon M. Shrum Major Entrance Scholarship recipient, she has been involved with the Helping and Happiness Lab, FASS Mentorship Program, 大象传媒 Athletics Dance Team, and Undergraduate Student Entrance Scholarship Student Committee. Her honours thesis examined whether engaging in prosociality can support retiring athletes' well-being as they complete their retirement transition. She currently works as the lab manager for Dr. Aknin's Helping and Happiness Lab and as an NCCP-certified figure skating coach and choreographer. In the future, Angie plans to complete a graduate program in sport psychology.
Nicole Pidperyhora
- Lorne M. Kendall Memorial Award in Psychology
Nicole is completing her BA Honours in Psychology and a minor in Counselling and Human Development. After joining 大象传媒 in 2017 as a recipient of the Gordon M. Shrum Major Entrance Scholarship, she has completed one cooperative education term, a term studying abroad at the University of the South Pacific, as well as participating in the FASS Connections Peer Mentor program. In the last two years of her studies, Nicole has become involved as a research assistant in Dr. Tanya Broesch's Culture and Development lab. Under Dr. Broesch's supervision, Nicole completed her Honours project, where she investigated mutually joyful interactions between infants and caregivers in two small-scale societies.
Devan Gill
Devan transferred to 大象传媒 in 2018 on an entrance scholarship awarded for academic excellence and has now completed her BA (Honours with Distinction) degree in Psychology. She has successfully defended her honours thesis examining the associations between sleep, mental health, and cognitive performance of young adults under the supervision of Dr. Brianne Kent in the Translational Neuroscience Lab. Her other most notable experiences as an undergraduate student have been volunteering as a research assistant in the Helping and Happiness Lab, supporting those throughout their recovery of mental illness at Coast Mental Health, and completing a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain. Devan aspires to complete her MA and PhD to become a clinical psychologist in the future.
