PUB 600: Topics in Publishing Management

Marketing & Management

An analysis of management issues essential to the daily operation of publishing firms.

In PUB 600: Topics in Publishing Management, the emphasis is placed on the distinctive nature of publishing as a cultural/information industry, the applicability of theory and practice in marketing and accounting, and the legal underpinnings of publishing.

PUB 600 is a foundational course in the Master of Publishing (MPUB) program. PUB 600 provides you with tools to navigate the complexities of managing a publishing enterprise. It explores publishing as a vital intersection where culture meets commerce, examining how the industry is shaped by economic, legal, and social forces.

The course covers the core management and financial practices common to the publishing sector, then moves into book data, as well as sales and marketing strategies specific to book publishers. Along the way, you'll engage with key theories and practical approaches in accounting, marketing, and intellectual property, building a solid foundation for understanding and working within the publishing world.
