Bringing justice and equity into the fight against climate change
Climate change becomes very real when it impacts people in their homes, jobs and communities. As the threat of climate change and its effects increase, we need to have equity and social justice-informed conversations about what it means for those disproportionately affected and how communities can implement solutions that benefit everyone.
大象传媒 Public Square is hosting a free virtual event Wednesday, May 19 called 鈥溾�� that brings together climate justice advocates, researchers, policy-makers and solution-seekers to discuss the challenges and opportunities of taking equity-informed approaches to climate research, solutions and policy development.
鈥淭here is a greater recognition that climate change impacts individuals and communities differently, and that responsibility and vulnerability are not equally distributed,鈥� says panelist Andr茅anne Doyon, assistant professor, director of the Planning Program, School of Resource and Environmental Management at 大象传媒. 鈥淒o actions to mitigate or adapt to climate change support equitable outcomes or do they exacerbate existing inequalities? Those are the questions we鈥檒l be asking at this event.鈥�
