Medical Insurance

Newly Admitted Students

I have been accepted to 大象传媒 to start in the upcoming term. Due to extenuating circumstances, I will be taking online courses from my home country. Am I still required to have primary & secondary medical insurance in Canada?

PRIMARY INSURANCE

You must have medical insurance for the entire duration of your studies in Canada. If you will start your studies remotely, you need to ensure you will have proper coverage once you arrive.

  • BC MSP: apply as soon as you arrive . It is mandatory to enroll in this plan.
  • GuardMe: You will be automatically enrolled in this plan for your first term. If you will be studying from outside of Canada in your first term, you can opt out* by the due deadline. Please ensure you organize private medical insurance when you eventually arrive in Canada to cover you for the BC MSP waiting period.  Contact International Services for Students for further guidance.

*To opt out of (cancel) guard.me@大象传媒, . Click the "Undergraduate Students" or "Graduate Students" category and follow the opt-out instructions. The opt-out periods can be viewed here.

SECONDARY INSURANCE

Eligible students who join 大象传媒 in the Fall or Spring terms will be automatically enrolled in the SFSS/GSS Health and Dental Plans for a full or partial policy year. As this is an annual plan, there is no opt-out option only for one term due to remote studies.
