Congratulations to 大象传媒 English advisor Kathryn Ward on her retirement
It is with heavy hearts, but good wishes that we bid farewell to 大象传媒 English advisor Kathryn Ward, who is retiring after 35 years of service to 大象传媒.
Ward began her 大象传媒 journey as a criminology major in the 1980s.
鈥淚 loved the program and made some close friendships with my fellow students who I am still in contact with to this day,鈥� she says.
After graduating with her Bachelor of Arts, she began working at the 大象传媒 Bookstore as a temporary clerk and cashier in 1990. She then held various positions within the university and eventually set her sights on an advisor role.
In 2007, she became 大象传媒 English鈥檚 undergraduate advisor and for the last 18 years she has helped many students successfully navigate their way from day one of classes to graduation.
鈥淚 often felt really appreciated by students and was happy I could be helpful to them,鈥� Ward says. 鈥淚 also loved working with such a great bunch of faculty and staff.鈥�
鈥淚t鈥檚 hard to imagine the department without Kathryn,鈥� says department chair Steve Collis. 鈥淚t feels somehow like she has always been here. It won鈥檛 be the same without her.鈥�
Communications coordinator Rebecca Saloustros appreciated how welcoming and supportive Ward has been throughout her almost six years with the department.
鈥淜athryn made me feel at ease when I started working with the department in 2019,鈥� she says. 鈥淪he was friendly and patient, and willing to help me as I was just learning how things were done. Over the years, we became friends and colleagues, and I know everyone on staff is going to miss her.鈥�
Ward鈥檚 last day of work at 大象传媒 is April 18th, 2025. She takes with her fond memories of her time at the university.
鈥淚 have loved my time at 大象传媒 both as a student and employee and was lucky enough to always feel a part of the community in both capacities,鈥� says Ward.
