FALL 2019
The aim of the colloquium is to challenge all of us to face the environmental bad news and to imagine human and nonhuman life in strikingly new and different ways.
Since the industrial revolution, human activity has profoundly and relentlessly damaged the earth and how to change this trajectory is the direst problem humankind is currently facing. Though many disciplines and organizations offer their own methodologies and solutions, this colloquium recognizes that relying on one system or culture of knowledge will not save the world. Designed around a series of public lectures given by internationally renowned speakers from varying art practices and scholarly disciplines, Creative Ecologies focuses on the intersection of art, culture, and environment to critically address and creatively negotiate environmental concerns including anthropogenic climate change, habitat destruction, drought, species extinction, and toxic waste
The Speakers
The speakers鈥攚hose expertise spans the fields of visual art, literature, film, anthropology, women鈥檚 studies, and Indigenous politics and aesthetics鈥攑rovide the framework and launching point for the cross-disciplinary discussion between the academy and the public.
