Departmental Scholarships & Awards
TERMS OF REFERENCE
Students must meet the Terms of Reference noted on each scholarship and award, and, unless otherwise stated, all students must meet the following criteria:
SCHOLARSHIPS
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
- Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units of standard graded courses in the term of award. Challenge, audit and non-credit courses are not considered.
- Have completed at least 12 units of standard graded courses at 大象传媒.
- A student holding an 大象传媒 Entrance Scholarship is not eligible for any other University administered scholarships.
AWARDS
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and be in good academic standing.
- Be enrolled in a minimum of nine units of standard graded courses in the term of award. Challenge, audit, and non-credit courses are not considered.
Fall 2026 Departmental Scholarships and Awards
The application period for the Fall 2025 Departmental Scholarships and Awards is now open. All applications are to be submitted according to the application instructions below by 11:59 PM on Monday, September 22, 2025. Please note that students themselves are responsible for determining if they meet Terms of Reference (TOR) for any of the awards listed.
Application Instructions
All applications require the following three (3) items to be submitted as a single, merged PDF, saved as in the following example:
LAST NAME, First Name (大象传媒 ID) NAME OF AWARD
(e.g., SMITH, Alex (123456789) P. DERMOT MURPHY)
- Letter/statement of intent (if required by award)
- CV or resume
- Letter(s) of reference, or other supporting materials, that are requested by the Terms of Reference for each specific award, and/or that you choose to include to further support your application.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Only one (1) award application per email.
- Please state the name of the award you are applying for in the email subject line.
- Please also include your 大象传媒 ID number in the body of the email.
All applications are to be submitted to ugclerk@sfu.ca.
Award recipients will be contacted directly by the 大象传媒 Financial Aid and Awards department. Due to the high volume of applications, only students selected to receive awards will be notified.
Awards: $2,500 and up
EMPRESARIO ENTREPRENEUR AWARD: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $7,100
One award, valued at $7,100, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is enrolled full-time in the Beedie School of Business;
- Is nominated or self-nominated with a faculty member reference as having participated successfully in one of the Beedie School of Business's key entrepreneurship programs such as Change Lab, the 大象传媒 Venture Accelerator, or Opportunity Fest; and
- Is in good academic standing.
Preference may be given to students who have a declared concentration in Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
The successful applicant will be selected based upon exemplification of high impact entrepreneurship, exceptional entrepreneurship skills, and passion in pursuing an idea that demonstrates a strong combination of intentional social impact and financial viability.
Applications must include:
- A CV outlining the applicant鈥檚 history of entrepreneurship training and ventures; and
- A letter of reference from a faculty member who can attest to the same.
ROBERT O. SANDERSON AWARD IN BUSINESS: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $5,000
One award, valued at $5,000, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program in the Beedie School of Business in the Fall 2025 term;
- Is in good academic standing;
- Has a demonstrated history of activity in addition to academics such as volunteerism, community involvement, extra-curricular activities and/or athletics.
Primary preference will be given to a student who entered 大象传媒 from School District #79 (Duncan, Cowichan Lake). Secondary preference will be given to a student who entered 大象传媒 from Vancouver Island.
CIBC UNDERGRADUATE AWARD FOR WOMEN IN THE BEEDIE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS: FOUR (4) AWARDS VALUED AT $5,000 EACH
Four awards, valued at $5,000 each, will be granted to undergraduate students who self-identify as women and, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meet the following criteria:
- Are enrolled full-time in the Fall 2025 term;
- Are pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in the Beedie School of Business with a concentration in Management Information Systems, or the Certificate in Business Analytics and Decision Making, or the Certificate in Business Technology Management;
- Are in good academic standing; and
- Have demonstrated engagement in technology-focused work experiences including Co-op or community involvement/activities such as technology-focused clubs and/or student organizations.
Preference will be given to students who are Indigenous or self-identify as someone from a racialized group.
Applications must include:
- A CV and/or co-curricular record outlining the applicant鈥檚 involvement in technology-focused work experience or technology-focused community involvement/activities;
- A letter of reference from a supervisor or community member who can verify such experiences; and
- A brief statement indicating that the applicant self-identifies as someone from one or more of the preferred groups that qualify for this opportunity.
BARRY MACDONALD AWARD IN ACCOUNTING: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $3,700
One award, valued at $3,700, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Business Administration program in the Beedie School of Business in the Fall 2025 term;
- Has completed at least 60 大象传媒 units;
- Has a declared concentration in Accounting;
- Is in good academic standing; and
- Has demonstrated exceptional community service.
Applications must include:
- A statement from the applicant describing their exceptional community service; and
- A letter of reference from an individual who can verify the applicant鈥檚 exceptional community service.
BEEDIE FAMILY BUSINESS AWARD: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $3,000
One award, valued at $3,000, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
- Is enrolled in a major program in the Beedie School of Business;
- Is in good academic standing; and
- Has demonstrated exceptional community or volunteer service.
Preference will be given to students who are registered in a study abroad exchange. Preference will also be given to students who have completed an international co-op work placement in one of the previous two terms and are currently enrolled full-time in the Fall 2025 term.
Applications must include:
- A CV outlining the applicant鈥檚 community/volunteer service involvement; and
- A letter of reference from someone who can attest to the applicant鈥檚 service in the community.
CPA UNDERGRADUATE AWARD IN ACCOUNTING FOR INDIGENOUS STUDENTS: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $3,000
One award, valued at $3,000, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is Indigenous (First Nations, M茅tis, Inuit);
- Is enrolled full-time in the Fall 2025 term;
- Is pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in the Beedie School of Business;
- Is in good academic standing; and
- Has interest in pursuing a career or further credentials in accounting and/or a CPA designation.
Preference will be given to students with a declared concentration in Accounting.
Applications must include:
- A cover letter from the applicant outlining their interest in pursuing a career or further credentials in accounting and/or a CPA designation; and
- A letter of reference from a supervisor or faculty member who can verify the applicant鈥檚 interest in pursuing a career or further credentials in accounting and/or a CPA designation.
SCOTIABANK STUDENT AWARDS IN SOCIAL INNOVATION: FOUR (4) AWARDS VALUED AT $2,700 EACH
Social innovation refers to a response to a social or environmental problem, which, once adopted, results in better solutions than existing approaches. Effective social innovations have the potential for transformative impact within communities, regions, or systems; are grounded in principles of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion; and centre the priorities and perspectives of communities impacted by the issue. Applicants should demonstrate a clear and active contribution to one or more social innovation issue areas, including a commitment to deeply understanding the related problem before taking action.
Four awards, valued at $2,700 each, will be granted to undergraduate students who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meet the following criteria:
- Are enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Business Administration program in the Beedie School of Business in the Fall 2025 term;
- Are in good academic standing; and
- Have demonstrated commitment to and achievement in social innovation.
Applications must include:
- A statement from the applicant describing their commitment to and achievement in social innovation; and
- A letter of reference from an individual who can verify the applicant鈥檚 commitment to and achievement in social innovation.
PETER R. B. ARMSTRONG/ROCKY MOUNTAINEER AWARD FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP: FOUR (4) AWARDS VALUED AT $2,500 EACH
Four awards, valued at $2,500 each, will be granted to undergraduate students who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meet the following criteria:
- Are enrolled full-time in their third or fourth year in the Beedie School of Business; and
- Have evidenced or achieved some level of entrepreneurial activities.
Applications must include:
- A letter discussing the applicant鈥檚 interest and involvement in entrepreneurial activities.
Awards: Under $2,500
BOIVIE FAMILY AWARD: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $2,150
One award, valued at $2,150, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in the Beedie School of Business with a declared concentration in Management Information Systems, or is completing the Certificate in Business Analytics and Decision Making or the Certificate in Business Technology Management;
- Is enrolled full-time in the Fall 2025 term;
- Is in good academic standing; and
- Has demonstrated engagement in technology-focused work experiences, including co-op or community involvement/activities such as technology-focused clubs and/or student organizations.
Preference will be given to women undergraduate students in programs where they are underrepresented and until such time as gender parity is achieved.
Applications must include:
- A CV and/or co-curricular record outlining the applicant鈥檚 involvement in technology-focused work experience or technology-focused community involvement/activities; and
- A letter of reference from a supervisor or community member who can verify such experiences.
WILLIAM G. DAVIDSON AWARD IN ACCOUNTING: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $2,100
One award, valued at $2,100, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is enrolled full-time in the Fall 2025 term;
- Is pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in the Beedie School of Business with a concentration in Accounting;
- Is in good academic standing; and
- Has an interest in pursuing a career and/or further credentials in accounting.
Preference will be given to students who are interested in pursuing their CPA designation.
Applications must include:
- A statement outlining the applicant鈥檚 commitment to pursue a career and/or further credentials in accounting; and
- A letter of reference from a supervisor or faculty member who can verify the applicant鈥檚 interest in pursuing a career and/or further credentials in accounting.
ROBERT (BOB) AND CHRISTIAN (CHRIS) COOK COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $2,050
One award, valued at $2,050, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is pursuing a bachelor's degree in the Beedie School of Business;
- Is enrolled full-time in the Fall 2025 term;
- Has a declared concentration in Human Resource Management;
- Is in good academic standing;
- Has made contributions to the well-being of their local, provincial, or national community; and
- Has an interest in labour relations, worker rights, and furthering fair labour conditions.
Applications must include:
- A CV outlining the applicant's community/volunteer involvement;
- A one-page statement detailing the applicant鈥檚 contributions to the well-being of their local, provincial, or national community that highlights their interest in labour relations, worker rights, and furthering fair labour conditions; and
- A letter of reference from a community member who can verify the community/volunteer involvement and the impact of the applicant's role.
CREW VANCOUVER AWARD ADVANCING WOMEN IN COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $2,000
One award, valued at $2,000, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is enrolled full-time in the Fall 2025 term;
- Is pursuing a bachelor's degree in the Beedie School of Business;
- Is in good academic standing;
- Self-identifies as a woman;
- Has aspirations in commercial real estate; and
- Is interested in furthering diversity of people who identify as women in the industry.
Applications must include:
- A one-page statement from the applicant outlining their commitment to pursuing a career in commercial real estate and their interest in furthering diversity of people who identify as women in the industry; and
- At least one letter of reference from an individual who can verify the applicant鈥檚 commitment to pursuing a career in commercial real estate.
LISA PINTO MEMORIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $2,000
One award, valued at $2,000, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is enrolled full-time in the Fall 2025 term;
- Is pursuing a bachelor's degree in the Beedie School of Business;
- Is in good academic standing; and
- Has volunteered with organizations or charities involved with research, support services, and/or health policies surrounding cancer.
Applications must include:
- A one-page statement from the applicant outlining their participation with organizations or charities involved with research, support services, and/or health policies surrounding cancer; and
- A letter of reference from an individual who can verify the applicant鈥檚 involvement with the relevant charity or organization.
ARC'TERYX AWARD FOR BUSINESS STUDENTS: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $2,000
One award, valued at $2,000, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is enrolled full-time in the Fall 2025 term;
- Is pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in the Beedie School of Business;
- Is in good academic standing;
- Is in their third or fourth year of studies; and
- Can demonstrate alignment with one of Arc鈥檛eryx鈥檚 values: Commit, Disruptive Evolution, Leave it Better, and Live It.
Applications must include:
- A personal statement of no more than 500 words which outlines how the applicant aligns with at least one of Arc鈥檛eryx鈥檚 values:
- Commit: Staying dedicated to achieving a goal, even when challenges arise.
- Disruptive Evolution: Challenging the status quo and finding innovative solutions to redefine what鈥檚 possible.
- Leave it Better: Actively working to improve the environment or community.
- Live It: Fully embracing a passion for the outdoors by integrating adventure into daily life.
- A letter of reference from a supervisor or faculty member who can verify the applicant aligns with Arc鈥檛eryx鈥檚 values.
In addition to the $2,000 award, the successful applicant will be guaranteed an interview for a co-op position at Arc'teryx during the following year, contingent on meeting co-op eligibility requirements. Beedie Co-op will facilitate the connection between the award recipient and Arc'teryx as part of the co-op hiring process.
FIRMA FOREIGN EXCHANGE CORPORATION UNDERGRADUATE AWARD IN FINANCE: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $1,750
One award, valued at $1,750, will be granted to an undergraduate student who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Is enrolled full-time in the Fall 2025 term in a bachelor鈥檚 degree program in the Beedie School of Business with a concentration in Finance;
- Is in good academic standing; and
- Has a demonstrated history of volunteerism.
Applications must include:
- A statement from the applicant describing their volunteerism; and
- A letter of reference from an individual who can verify the applicant鈥檚 volunteerism.
