Current Projects

Sreya Ajay(she/her) is currently pursuing a Master鈥檚 degree in Urban Studies at 大象传媒. She has a background in architecture and urban research. Sreya鈥檚 research interests lie primarily in social vulnerabilities and impacts of climate induced hazards on at-risk populations. In her free time, she loves reading comics, watching movies, making niche memes and going on walks.

Research Project: Sreya is working on the Downtown Eastside Climate Readiness roadmap project with Vancity community foundation and 大象传媒 Action on Climate Team. The project looks into the current and projected climate impacts to DTES residents and organizations, and further developing  a strategic guide that integrates best practices in the social sector to minimize climate risks and emissions, alongside equity, health, housing, and other organizational goals.

Jody Bauche is an upcoming graduate of a Master of Arts from 大象传媒鈥檚 School of Communication. Her current research interests include the application of Indigenous research methodologies, research for social change and the impact of media on social movements. Jody is also very passionate about cultural resurgence in the arts, which includes media, theatre, film and music.

Research Project: Jody is working with on an evaluation of their Learning Libraries in 27 First Nations communities across BC.

Morgan Krakow is a master鈥檚 student at the 大象传媒 School of Communication.

Research Project: Morgan is working with Neworld Theatre and the Climate Disaster Project on an upcoming theatre production that centers the stories of climate disaster survivors.

Courtney Dowdall (she/her) is a M茅tis and Cree PhD student in Criminology at 大象传媒 studying how intimate partner violence escalates to homicide. Her work focuses on identifying early warning patterns and practical intervention windows to improve safety for survivors. She works with individuals, police, and support organisations around the world to understand and reduce the barriers people face when exiting violent relationships.

Research Project: Courtney is partnering with and  to evaluate the Functional Assessment Tracker (FAT) in BC transition houses that welcome pets. The study examines FAT鈥檚 effectiveness in improving compassionate dog-behaviour management; its impact on the safety and well-being of survivors, staff, and animals; and how anti-violence workers use it to make care decisions. Findings will guide improvements to FAT, capacity-building for anti-violence workers, and pet-inclusive policies for domestic-violence transition housing.
