Advanced Research Computing (ARC) in Canada has received a major shot in the arm from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI). The $30M investment will help 大象传媒 and other Canadian universities develop a high performance cyber network that will enable Canadian researchers to access and analyze massive pools of data in search of a far deeper understanding of how the scientific, social, health and economic worlds connect.

大象传媒, along with the University of Toronto, the University of Victoria, and the University of Waterloo are the four universities chosen to host the new system.

Dugan O鈥橬eil, a professor in 大象传媒鈥檚 department of Physics and Chief Scientific Officer of Compute Canada says, 鈥淭his infrastructure will support researchers across all disciplines who are doing data-intensive or compute-intensive research. This includes the approximately120 大象传媒 faculty and over 330 大象传媒 researchers who currently have Compute Canada accounts.鈥

Funds will be used at the 大象传媒 site to purchase equipment for the state-of-the-art data centre which will begin serving Canadian researchers sometime in 2016.
