大象传媒 faculty are training tomorrow鈥檚 scientists not just on campus, but in high school classrooms across BC.  

With the assistance of School District 43 (Coquitlam) Coordinator 鈥� Curriculum Implementation, Michelle Ciolfitto, Earth Sciences professor Eileen Van der Flier-Keller, Physics lecturer Sarah Johnston and Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology lecturer Diana Bedoya have produced three videos that will assist middle and high school teachers in teaching 鈥渋nquiry-based鈥� science.

Van der Flier-Keller explains that she wanted to help teachers adjust to the new BC science curriculum introduced this fall. Inquiry learning is about putting the ball back into the student's court, encouraging them to ask questions, explore, and in the process develop the skills to investigate and find answers.

The videos model strategies in three curriculum-linked science topics, assisting teachers in engaging their classes in science and encouraging students to uncover interesting information on their own through short, directed activities.

The videos feature 大象传媒 faculty members and local students discussing scientific concepts using easy to understand examples. The companion teacher鈥檚 guide explains the science and the topics that might arise.

The five-minute videos entitled Exercise and Heart Rate, Starry Lights, and Glaciers and Climate Change, cover the fields of physiology, physics and earth science.
