EDI Resources for Faculty

EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) is a framework for promoting fair processes, acknowledging and celebrating differences, and promoting a culture of belonging.

A fundamental ambition of science is to better understand our world. Diverse perspectives expand our scope of thinking, strengthening our ability to meet this objective.

The education and research enterprise involves a community of staff, students, technicians, and faculty. A sense of belonging within a community contributes to well-being and job satisfaction, which enhances effectiveness.

Our initial development of resources related to an EDI framework has the following goals.

  • To identify and support the implementation of strong mentorship and leadership practices relevant to scientific disciplines, ensuring high quality research and learning environments.
  • To describe hiring practices in support of robust faculty renewal, with the goal of identifying potential leaders in education and research.
  • To support department level initiatives and committees that advance equity and belonging in their unit.
  • To provide access to institutional pathways for conflict resolution, cultural and safety training, and best practices.

The work we do at 大象传媒 falls under various legal and administrative frameworks, including the , BC Employment Standards, and 大象传媒 policies and collective agreements. There is significant overlap between the central ideas of an EDI framework and legal compliance around safe and accessible workplaces.
