Introduction
Preparing physicians for the health care British Columbians urgently need.
We're building a medical school designed from the ground up to strengthen primary care, embedding students in communities from day one, integrating Indigenous ways of knowing throughout the curriculum, and partnering with the First Nations Health Authority, Fraser Health, and B.C.鈥檚 Divisions of Family Practice to prepare graduates who will serve where they're needed most.
Message from the Founding Dean
Welcome to the 大象传媒 School of Medicine. As the Founding Dean, I am thrilled to introduce you to British Columbia鈥檚 newest medical school鈥攁nd the first to be established in Western Canada since 1967.
At 大象传媒, we are building something different: a community-engaged, primary care-focused medical school grounded in equity, innovation, and reconciliation. While we proudly meet the rigorous accreditation standards required of every medical school in Canada, our vision goes further. We are committed to training future physicians in the community, for the community, and with the community.
Our research will produce real-world impact鈥攕trengthening primary care practice, advancing medical education and health policy, and creating evidence-based pathways that respond directly to community needs. This is how we aim to drive lasting, meaningful change in health systems.
We are honoured to walk this path in partnership with the First Nations Health Authority, reflecting our deep commitment to reconciliation and respect for Indigenous self-determination in health. We are equally proud to collaborate with the Divisions of Family Practice and Fraser Health, ensuring our students receive robust training first and foremost in community settings as well as local hospitals.
In September 2025, we achieved a major milestone with the successful granting of preliminary accreditation. We are now excitedly preparing to welcome our inaugural class of students in the summer of 2026.
Whether you are a prospective student, community member, healthcare partner, or supporter鈥擨 invite you to explore our vision, connect with our mission, and join us in shaping a medical school that reflects the values, diversity, and aspirations of British Columbians. Together, we鈥檙e building something we can all be proud of.
Warm regards,
Dr. David J. Price
Founding Dean and Special Advisor to the Provost & VP Academic
